Just like that, in a flash, another year has passed. As I reflect on the past year, a lot has happened. As time continues to pass, so do many precious moments. For all of us, there were ups and downs. Maybe there was more loss than we could handle, or maybe for a few of us, time just stood still, refusing to move in any direction, or if you were lucky, you held on to whatever you could manage and sail through in the right direction.
For me, the one word that stood out this past year was perspective. We know that we cannot control what happens outside of us, like the weather or the effect of the pandemic; for example. We can influence how to regulate what is going on inside us, how our emotions are rolling out. The key to this influence is the lens you choose to look through to the outside world.
An old saying, “you must be wearing your rose colour glasses.” This refers to the notion that all you see is the good no matter what happens. That is the perspective we should strive for in the new year. In any set of circumstances, what truly matters is the lens through which we view the world. Our perspective decides whether we stay where we are or move forward. In that spirit, let’s turn the upcoming year into a mindset that makes our lives a bit simpler.
Walkthrough every room of your life and tidy up those things that block you from seeing the beauty that is the rate in front of you. Explore the why behind what we think we must do before coming up with the shoulds. Ask ourselves what will cater to your inner needs to focus more on what you want to be. Take a moment to be mindful, be present and look through the lens that gives you joy.
There is always a new perspective waiting for you. You just need to allow yourself to be open to looking at things from a different angle, a new perspective.
“What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.” ~ Vern Mclellan
