Calm Minds

Meditation may seem simple, but it takes time and consistency to develop. Like any skill, playing an instrument, playing a sport or perfecting a dance step takes time, repetition and consistency.

Why am I writing another blog on meditation?

Meditation reduces anxiety, depression, physical pain and makes you feel more grounded and authentically connected to your present life. I have learned that a wandering mind is an unhappy mind. We may not realize it, but your mind is constantly meandering during the day. Being present in the moment brings more happiness and grounds you.

At first, you may feel silly just sitting there, closing your eyes and breathing. Think of the practice of meditation as something that will make you feel fabulous, a gift of self-care, like a bubble bath. Please keep an open mind; you will get the hang of it. If you need some help to get started, don’t hesitate to reach out to Elevate Yoga & Wellness. I would be happy to help you set up your meditation practice, give you the gift to start the meditation practice that will bring you happiness, and strengthen your mindful muscles. Did I mention that meditation supports cognition too? Keep watching for my blogs over the next month as I continue to provide you with more insight into the magic of meditation. Here is a simple meditation that you can use to get started.

Three-minute Meditation

Get into a comfortable position, sitting or lying in savasana. Ensure that you feel comfortable and close your eyes. Bring your attention to your breath. Feel the airflow through the nose, down through your lungs, expanding your belly. Exhale following the breath, leave your stomach and come up through the nose. Do this breathing for five breaths. Now say to yourself on you inhale, “I am,” and on the exhale say “here.” Repeat this mantra while you breathe for three minutes. If your thoughts get hijacked, come back to your breath, following the inhale and exhale, then start repeating the mantra.

.

“The answers you seek never come when the mind is busy; they come when the mind is still.”

Namaste,

Sharon
